RESESARCH SEMINAR
Hunting Genghis -Khan's Posthumous Life
(24.10.2024: 03-05. PM CEST)
Egas Bender de Moniz Bandeira (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg/Max Planck Institute)
Katarzyna Golik (Institute of Political Studies PAS)
Moderated by
Ivan Peshkov (Centre of Central Asian Studies AMU)

The goal of the seminar is to discuss the global dimension of Genghis Khan’s legacy in modern Eurasia in the context of collaborative nationalism, mass mobilization of the indigenous population in Siberia and decolonization. How do academic debates, images of popular culture and propaganda patterns actualize the legacy of the "most important person of the last millennium"? Why is his name returning to the center of the political field of the Eurasian countries, combining politics, public history and popular culture?
